ATO Industry Benchmarks

Overview

Small business benchmarks are designed to help businesses meet their tax obligations by enabling them to compare their performance against similar businesses.

Benchmarks show key business ratios for more than 100 industries reporting within high, medium and low turnover ranges. By comparing your business to the benchmarks for your industry you can assess your business performance.

If you find you are outside the benchmarks for your industry, you should work out if you have correctly recorded and reported income and deductions for your business. To do this you should review your record-keeping practices to ensure they meet the legal requirements.

Business categories

The benchmarks are grouped into categories based on business industry codes. For more information, refer to Business industry codes.
